Ridesharing Services - George Town Post

How Ridesharing is Changing the Future of Car Ownership

Transportation will soon be totally different than now. Transporter technology reality brings us many new opportunities in the mobility. For a couple of years, it will be cheaper and more convenient to share cars and rides than to have your own car.

Take a look at how ridesharing is changing the future of car ownership.

Transporter technology reality

Although people’s intention to be transported from place to place quickly, affordable, and safely has not changed, new transportation technology provides many new opportunities to complete this task. Soon there will be many new modes of mobility that will be both cheaper and more comfortable than to have your own car. While we will have more options for transport, our air will be cleaner and streets will get new purposes.

By 2030, there will be three major trends in transportation – ridesharing, autonomous vehicles, and vehicle electrification. Around 5 million conventional cars will be replaced by self-driving vehicles, while 95 percent of the US roads will be used by autonomous electric vehicles that will offer ‘transport-as-a-service’ (TaaS) on-demand.

This not only that will change the way of mobility, but will also disrupt the whole industry. While those who will offer TaaS will be at the top of the industry, most automotive companies will have a large decline in sales, as well as companies in oil industries, while customers will have many new opportunities for transport. To prepare on time, companies have already started to invent new ways of operating. Former Google’s Waymo, Mobileye, and Apple plan to build their own self-driving technology that will be incorporated into existing and new cars, while Tesla, for example, develops electric cars with already incorporated autonomous systems.

New mobility trends

According to studies, when autonomous vehicles become legalized for public use, ridesharing will cost you $3,400 per year, while the car ownership will cost you even $9,000 per year. Only that fact will surely convince you to use ridesharing instead of driving your own car. Services similar to today’s Uber Pool or Lyft Line will cost just $1,700 per year, for example. Shared autonomous electric vehicles (SAEVs) will decrease the travel cost from $1.20 per mile to even 50 cents per mile. Who would then buy and maintain cars, buy gasoline and think how to endure traffic jams and find a parking space, when it is much easier and cheaper to sit and drive where you want with no effort?!

There are also other benefits of ridesharing, such as less pollution, fewer traffic jams, no more troubles to find a parking space, etc. Cities will also change, first large cities, then all others. Parking spaces will be used for other purposes. There will be more greenery, while gas stations will be replaced by electric-charging stations.

Our transportation future will be interesting indeed. As the price of new transport services will decrease, demand for them will grow more and more. Although we will have to wait around 10 years, it’s worth it. We will get a lot more mobility options, among which is a ridesharing, which will be both more comfortable and cheaper than driving our cars. Millennials already use mobile devices and apps for almost all purposes, so they will also easily accept these new mobility changes, while others will follow them. There are also smart cities, clean air and other benefits of advanced transporter technology reality. Large automotive companies have already started to develop new transportation solutions that will definitely change our lives a lot. Why we would need cars when ridesharing in autonomous electric cars will be there, isn’t it?!
