5 Signs That Your Water Quality Is Poor

by Jasen Halvorson

Is your hair falling out no matter how many shampoos you’ve changed? Are you getting sick repeatedly and unable to figure out why? Are your clothes losing their color no matter how many detergents you try? The most likely reason for this is the quality of the water you’re getting at your home.

Bad quality of water can cause you a number of health problems as well as have hazardous effects on your appliances and apparel. Here are some obvious ways you can tell the quality of your water is bad and you probably require a whole house iron water filter installation:

  1. Cloudy Water

While some amounts of minerals are naturally present in your tap water and are harmless, large amounts of minerals can pose a serious health risk for you and your family. If you notice your tap water getting cloudy, it is probably due to the high mineral content in the water.

  1. Chlorinated Water

If your tap water has a strong smell, it is most likely due to the presence of Sulphur or chlorine compounds. Although a small amount of chlorine is often added to public water spaces such as pools etc to kill of the bacteria, it is not suitable for consumption. Especially in a household where the water is used for brushing teeth, showering, drinking and sometimes even in cooking.

If your water starts to smell like your pool, it is time for you to call a professional and get the water quality checked and treated.

  1. Tinted Water

If you notice any discoloration or tint in your water, it is probably due to the presence of iron, manganese or other organic compounds. Tinted water is unsafe for human consumption and needs to be treated immediately. To fix this issue, you need to get a whole house iron water filter installed.

  1. Mineral Deposits on Taps

If you notice mineral deposits on taps and showerheads in your home, it is a strong indicator of hardness in the water. Hard water is caused due to the presence of calcium and magnesium compounds in the water and can lead to a lot of issues such as decoloring of your clothes, dry skin, and deposits on your appliances. You can get it treated by getting a salt base or salt-free water softener for your home.

  1. Oily Film

Sometimes you will notice an oily film form on the sitting water such as in toilets etc. This is also a sign of bad water quality and needs to be treated.

Deteriorating water quality is not as big an issue as it used to be in the old times. Nowadays if you notice the bad quality of water, all you need to do is get a professional service to install a water filter in your house like iron oxide filter systems and you’re good to go. However, you need to be extra vigilant and make sure you identify when the water quality is going bad so you can get it fixed in time before it causes any irrevocable damage.
